11 your 9 is showing
Uhh—no. His Eleven is showing. Nine was never THAT callous about his companion’s life. He was, at times, a little bit reckless, but he was never detached.
And here’s how he acts when he thinks they’re both about to die:

#never say that 11 is like 9 #nEVER
Wow, no. Nine would never, ever act like that towards someone. Nine thought everyone was important. Nine had such a deep respect for life. He thought that every single person was important, even if that meant he had to accept the fact that he was going to bear witness to their death.
It started with Jabe, and how respectful he was when he had to break the news of her death. He apologized to Gwyneth when she chose to sacrifice herself to save everyone else. He defended the pig decoy when it was killed in “Aliens of London”. He tried to stop the Nestene Consciousness by telling it how new the life on Earth was, and how it deserved a chance. I could go on, but I think this quote from “Father’s Day” sums it up better than I ever could:
“Who said you’re not important? I’ve traveled to all sorts of places, done things you couldn’t even imagine. But you two? Street corner, two in the morning, getting a taxi home. I’ve never had a life like that.”
Nine, despite his rather hardened exterior, felt far more deeply than he let on. I love that about him. Despite everywhere he’s been, and everything he has seen and been through, he hasn’t lost touch with the idea that everything, no matter how big or how small, has value. Every life matters. Telling someone to “shut up” doesn’t fit Nine’s character. He was never, ever that dismissive.
